Make the desert green
Using some of nature's smallest components Saudi Arabia can create one of the biggest changes the world has ever seen.
The solution is under your feet
The Ikhdar Group has developed and combined technologies that enable trees and plants to retain water, air and nutrients, capture carbon and thrive, even in desert sand.
Water
We have a 99% success rate in finding water in deserts and arid regions. That means having a stable source of clean water for irrigation, right where it's needed, without having to pipe it in.
Plants
Selection and nursing of plants adapted to the conditions in Saudi Arabia. The plants are propagated in a controlled indoor environment (in vitro). It's efficient, scalable and produces healthier, more abundant results.
Biochar
Made from sewage sludge and waste. Retains nutrients, air and water and is extremely resilient, creating a healthy ecosystem. Remains in the soil, making it fertile for decades and beyond.
Microbes
Bind water and fix nitrogen for the entire lifespan of trees and plants. Microbes also compost, prevent erosion and break down pollutants.
Mycorrhiza
A natural fungus that forms networks of fibres in the soil, that carry water and nutrients to the plant. They increase soil stability and prevent erosion.
Carbon
Trees and plants store carbon in their biomass and in the surrounding soil. Forests are long-term carbon sinks, storing carbon for decades. It's one of the most efficient ways to reduce atmospheric CO2.
One-stop shop
The Ikhdar Group is an one-stop shop, the only point of contact needed to turn sand into soil. Each part of the process is currently operational and can be in production in Saudi Arabia within months. The aim is to make it an entirely Saudi project as soon as possible.
The soil is the solution
Working together Saudi Arabia and the Ikhdar Group can show the world how to create healthy soils and ecosystems, capture CO₂ from the atmosphere, sequester carbon in the ground and turn the desert green.
